Five Star Professional has named Lisa Birdsong of Keller Williams Realty one of the North Texas recipients of the 2013 Five Star Real Estate award. The award winners will appear in a special section in the May issue of Texas Monthly.
The Five Star Real Estate Agent Program is designed to identify real estate agents in a given market who satisfy objective criteria that are associated with providing quality services to clients.
Award candidates are identified through nominations received by consumers. To receive the Five Star Real Estate Agent award, a real estate agent must satisfy five objective eligibility and evaluation criteria that are associated with real estate agents who provide quality services to their clients. The award process is conducted annually in each market.1
It’s no surprise to those who have worked with Lisa that she won this award. Her clients are always quick to provide positive feedback on their experiences with her. Although much of North Texas still remains in Stage 3 Water Restrictions, the recent rainstorms brought the area lake levels up and much-needed relief to residents.
Lake Lavon, which has been holding near 50% capacity for the better part of a year, has seen its lake level rise this past week due to the rain. The lake rose approximately five feet in less than six days, which equates to about an 18% increase. Unfortunately, this isn’t enough to alleviate the dangers of drought conditions for the area.
The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) says that the twice-per-month watering restrictions will be extended to June 1, 2012. All residents of the North Texas district are asked to water only when absolutely necessary and to reduce turf irrigation – focus on trees, shrubs and foundations.
It’s important for everyone to use water wisely during these times of limited supply, because the NTMWD’s next step is Stage 4 Water Restrictions.
Last month, NTMWD was considering Stage 4 restrictions, which would prohibit landscape watering (except for foundations and hand-held hose watering of trees), it would prohibit permitting of new pools, no draining and refilling of existing pools, golf courses would have limited watering rights, no washing of vehicles, and the list goes on from there. In brevity, no unnecessary use of treated water. If Lake Lavon nears or drops below 35% capacity, the NTMWD will most assuredly put the Stage 4 restrictions in place.
But as of right now, Lake Lavon is at 75%. If North Texans will continue to be mindful of their water usage, and Mother Nature give us more rain like we had last week, we might avoid Stage 4 altogether.

Frisco’s announcement, back in 2008, of their intention to create a ‘grand park’ in west Frisco got their residents giddy. Now, almost four years later, residents are still anxiously awaiting the park.
Today, Dudley Raymond, Parks Planning & Business Development Manager, posted this on the City’s Q&A Board, “Currently, it looks as if it will be approximately 2 years before the project can start construction. We are working with the various state and federal regulatory agencies to receive permission to build the lakes. Construction will take approximately 18-24 months once began.”
You can almost hear the collective sigh of disappointment across the city. But don’t despair – this park will be worth the wait. Many people involved with the behind-the-scenes development have likened it to New York’s Central Park. It will include mixed-use developments, natural creek corridor, a ‘kid place’, monuments, mini parks and landscape galore. Click on the banner image to enlarge it for more detail.
The park, when completed, will be situated north of Stonebrook Pkwy between Legacy Drive and the Dallas North Tollway but will carry over to the east side of Tollway to the existing civic center.

After months of speculation, Trader Joe’s has finally revealed its new locations in the Dallas area.
The first location is scheduled to open spring 2012 in Plano at the popular intersection of Preston and Park. The second location will be opening in fall 2012 near Lower Greenville, a major entertainment district.
Trader Joe’s is a grocery chain that offers hard-to-find foods and plenty of organic products. There are more than a few North Texans who have been anxiously awaiting their arrival to our market. The wait is over. Enjoy!
